An agency asked me for twelve rooms in February.
I had four.

That's usually where the email ends: sorry, fully booked, try another week. And this agency had done everything RIGHT: real dates, real names, a deposit ready.

February is the week everybody wants. I say no to it more often than I'd like.

So I didn't say no. I asked: what about a villa?

Casa de Campo has villas that take a whole group under one roof. Staff, a pool, golf carts at the door. Some groups take the villa outright. Some mix it: rooms for the couples, the villa for the foursomes.

The group went. Nobody mentioned the rooms again.

Every villa and course is on one map. Link in the first comment 👇

Twelve golfers, one week in the Caribbean. Villa or rooms?

Help me with this one.

A travel agency has had a Caribbean resort in its catalogue since 2019. Rates arrive every season. The owner has been there herself, and she liked it.

Six years. Not one booking…

The resort says the agency doesn't push it.
The agency says the resort doesn't sell.

I think they're both wrong. What would you say the REAL reason is?

1. The price.
2. Nobody at the resort has ever asked who her clients are.
3. She has never sold the Caribbean and doesn't know where to start.
4. The rates arrive as a PDF and nothing else.
5. Something else. Tell me.

Write the number in the comments.

On Friday I'll tell you which one it was, and what changed it.

Bell on if you want the answer.

On Wednesday I asked why a resort can sit in a catalogue for six years and never sell.

It wasn't the price. It wasn't the PDF.

It was number 2…

In six years, nobody had asked her who her clients are.

Her groups are twelve men who travel every February, half of them with a wife who doesn't play. What she needs is somewhere all twenty of them are happy for a week. Not the best course in the country.

That is one question. Four minutes on the phone.

We had that call in March. She sent her first group in November.

The resort didn't change. The rates didn't change. Nothing changed except that somebody ASKED.

Which of your suppliers has never asked you that?

Everyone asks about the 5th at Teeth of the Dog®.
I want to know what happens on the other seventeen…

A famous hole explains why someone puts a course on their list. It doesn't explain how a group of mixed handicaps walks off the 18th.

Where the pace slows down. How a 24 handicap feels on the back nine. Whether the buggy changes the round or just moves you through it.

Those answers come from playing it, not from the photograph.

The 5th sells the destination. The other seventeen are what you build the trip around.

The requests that reach me with the handicaps already listed are the ones I can answer properly.

Send me the handicaps in your group and I'll tell you how that round is likely to go.

[USEFUL] Three courses, four days. The order matters more than most itineraries suggest.

A group lands at Casa de Campo with three Pete Dye courses ahead and one question: which one first?

When a group asks me, this is what I send. Teeth of the Dog is the famous one. It's also the hardest, and nobody plays their best straight off a nine-hour flight.

The order I send groups out in:

Day one, The Links. Inland, forgiving, wakes up the swing.
Day two, Dye Fore. Long and wide, with the cliffs over the Chavón.
Day three, Teeth of the Dog. Seven holes on the ocean, with legs that have recovered.
Day four, whichever one they argued about at dinner.

Same scorecards either way. Different stories on the flight home.

Teeth of the Dog first or last?

Not a golf package.
Not a clinic with a hotel attached.
Not a pro's trip with a few clients added on…

From 25 to 29 November, David Vanegas brings his players to Casa de Campo. Five days of golf, coaching and rest. All inclusive. We built it together with David and the resort.

We've just opened places, and I'm sharing it for two reasons.

The first: you may have the exact client for this.

The second: the same structure works for anyone who travels with people who trust them. A teaching pro. A club. A group that goes away together every year. An agency that takes the initiative.

The resort, the courses and the logistics are on us.

Six years ago, a few friends wanted to play Teeth of the Dog together.
This [November], a hundred people are coming back…

It's called the Copa España, and it has become the week I look forward to most at Casa de Campo®.

Same dates every year. The tournament on the three Pete Dye courses. The villas and the hotel for the ones who play and the ones who don't. And a programme that runs without anyone in the group having to organise a thing.

Nobody planned a hundred. They planned a good week, and the next year everyone brought someone.

An annual event is the hardest thing to build and the easiest thing to sell once it exists. This one exists because [organizador] and the resort's golf team make it happen every year.

Thank you, [nombre]. Here's to the seventh.

I played Teeth of the Dog the day it reopened.
Not my best round. Not close…

I represent the resort. I could have read the press release and sent the update to every agency on my list that same afternoon.

Instead I booked a tee time.

By the fourth hole I had stopped counting strokes. By the seventh, out on the ocean holes, I understood what the renovation had changed, and it wasn't in the press release.

That's what goes in the email now. Not the bunker count. What the wind does on that tee at that hour of the morning.

I play the courses before I recommend them. Some days that costs me a scorecard.

Tell me about a round you played badly and still think about.

A quote is not a price.
It's six answers…

An agency wrote on a Tuesday. Her client wanted Madrid: four golfers, a long weekend in October. She had her confirmation on Wednesday morning, because her first email already had the answers in it.

Dates, with one alternative.
Handicaps, more or less.
Where they want to sleep: city centre or by the course.
What they've already played.
Whether the tee time or the budget matters more.
And who decides.

With those six I can hold tee times the same afternoon. Without them I'm writing back with questions, and by the third email her client has booked somewhere else.

She got her yes in a day. Her client thinks she's brilliant. She is.

I've put the six on one page. Comment QUOTE and I'll send it.

Your client has played Ireland, Scotland and Portugal.
He is not going to be impressed by a brochure.
Tell me who he is and you'll leave with five ideas…

If you're at IGTM you already sell golf people brag about. This is for the client who has run out of things to brag about.

Three groups I'd have something ready for:

The one you can't get wrong. A client who matters and doesn't give second chances. Teeth of the Dog is the course they talk about when they get home. Restored in 2024 under the Dye family.

The one who has seen everything. 63 Pete Dye holes, a 16th-century village with a 5,000-seat amphitheatre, polo, a marina. All of it on the same 7,000 acres.

The one that doesn't want to move. Four suppliers for one booking isn't selling, it's admin. Here it's one property: golf, nine à la carte restaurants, beach, spa, and the airport nine kilometres from the first tee.

Tell me the group. I'll give you five ideas before you sit down with anyone else.

Find me in the IGTM itinerary as Casa de Campo® Resort & Villas. Stand [XX]. Cannes, 19–22 October.

Sixty women, one brief, and the word that changed the whole proposal…

The brief arrived for Madrid: sixty women, golf every day, and three lines I almost skipped. Private places to eat. Dinner together. Time away from the course.

Golf was the reason they were travelling. It wasn't the reason they'd remember the trip.

So the format changed. Shorter rounds on two of the days. A playing format where nobody waits on the tee. One dinner somewhere that isn't the hotel. An afternoon with no golf in it at all.

The word was "together". It appeared four times in the brief. The rooms and the tee times were the easy part.

What's the word in the last brief you received?
